Buttermilk question?

Making a new dish tonight and the recipe calls for blue cheese dressing. One of the ingredients for the homemade dressing is 1/3 cup of buttermilk. Wondering if buttermilk is ok to have? When I think of buttermilk, pancakes come to mind lol. Again sorry if I sound silly just want to make sure it's ok to use this and if so could you recommend a brand.
